The Department of Natural Resources and Society, College of Natural Resources
(www.cnr.uidaho.edu), University of Idaho, invites applications for an
(9 month, with potential for supplemental salary), tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor in Forest Economics to help continue shaping
our interdisciplinary department of faculty from across a range of social and biophysical science disciplines. We seek a faculty member trained in
forest resource economics interested in how social and biophysical sciences contribute to the management of forest lands in Idaho and the region.
The position is approximately 70% research, 20% teaching and advising, and 10% outreach/service.
Research responsibilities: Develop an externally funded research program that complements existing
NRS faculty expertise; develop new research directions in forest
economics that focuses on the contribution of the forest products industry to the Idaho and regional economy; and collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting with other
social science and biophysical faculty. We seek someone who is motivated to develop an outstanding program of research and graduate education and who can thrive in
a team environment.
Teaching responsibilities: Will consist of one course, such as a junior level natural resource economics
course. The incumbent will also be involved in mentoring
graduate students (MNR, MS, Ph.D.) in the college.
Service and outreach responsibilities: Provide economic expertise to collaborators, scientists and Idaho stakeholders
by participating in the design and delivery
of publications, symposia, workshops, and related outreach activities. Serve in faculty governance of the department, college and university.
Completed Ph.D. in forest economics (or related field) at the time of starting
the position; ability to compete for external funding; ability to publish
refereed journals; and interest in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses. Demonstrated success in applied natural resource economics; experience in
working across diverse disciplines; strong analytical skills; and potential to mentor graduate students.
Must: Applicants selected as finalist candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses effectively; experience
and education in an area such as natural resource economics; skill in verbal
written communication; demonstrated success in publishing in refereed journals; experience in statistical analysis and interpretation of data.

The Institution: The University of Idaho is the Land Grant institution of Idaho, located in the panhandle of northern Idaho. The CNR has three departments
(Fish and Wildlife Sciences; Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences; and Natural Resources and Society) and offers eight undergraduate degree programs, Master
of Natural Resources (professional degree), Master of Science in Natural Resources, and PhD in Natural Resources. The college has 700 undergraduate majors
and over 250 graduate students.
